Promoting Lent Event
through Notices is an important way to keep your congregation or
community up to date with Lent Event activity. Use these notices as
specified. Please see also the Announcements.

Sunday 20th January, 2008
More than 800
million people in our world today do not have enough food to
sustain a healthy life. It is hard to know what to do about it. We
invite you to
participate in Lent Event and make a small stand against the
injustice of world poverty.
Lent
Event challenges us to forgo a luxury item or two from our daily
lifestyle and to donate the money saved to enable some of the
world’s neediest people to access the basic necessities of life –
such as clean water, education and health care.
The
beauty of it is that we do not spend an extra dollar – but we share
a little of the world’s resources with those who do not receive
their fair portion.
Lent
begins on 6th February. What could you give up for 40 days?
Further information and brochures will be available
soon.

You can help
children like Usha to have a brighter future! Usha is a teenager in
the Nilgiri Hills in South India.
Her
parents are illiterate labourers in the tea plantations. Over the
last ten years, the Integrated Tribal Development Project has cared
for her health with inoculations and healthy meals. A preschool run
by the project prepared Usha to attend school and she has been
supported by the project to continue with her education. Now Usha
dreams of being a teacher – a life transformed.
This
is just one of the five amazing projects that Lent Event supports.
Remember, the idea is simple. We give up an item or two from our
daily lifestyle during the forty days of Lent and donate the money
we save to the Lent Event projects.
Your
40 days of giving can truly make a life worth living. Further
information and brochures will be available soon.

Sunday 3rd February, 2008
Lent Event is
about changing the world by changing the way we live in the world.
Will you forgo a luxury item for the forty days of Lent and donate
the savings to life-changing Lent Event projects in the developing
world?
Have
you thought about what you will give up? Could you manage without
your daily paper? Your pick-meup coffee? Your glass of wine? Could
you forgo your
Friday night takeaway? Could you catch the bus to work instead of
driving?
The beauty of Lent Event is that our small sacrifices remind us
every day of the difficulties faced by some of our brothers and
sisters in impoverished communities. For example, as we
miss our favourite drink with our evening meal, we are reminded of
the millions of people who have no evening meal.
Lent
starts on Wednesday. Have you decided what you will give up? Please
take a brochure today. |
