About
Established in 2005, Lent Event is a community movement committed to calling people in wealthier nations such as Australia to empower their overseas neighbours enduring extreme poverty.
Lent Event challenges communities and individuals to re-evaluate what they value in this world and to wisely use the resources entrusted to humankind for the benefit of all. Lent Event invites us to shape our lives more fully with God’s love and compassion for people who are very poor.
The community movement is most well-known for its annual event, ‘Lent Event’ which in 2012 will run from 22 February – 7 April, 2012.
The concept of Lent Event is straightforward. For 40 days, reflect on communities experiencing extreme poverty and on the way of Jesus who came to bring good news to the poor of the world. Act by giving up an item or two from regular spending and donate this money to vital relief and development projects through the Australian relief and development agency, UnitingWorld, thus connecting with partner communities who are very poor.
Join the thousands of people and hundreds of communities in 2012 who are committing in a practical way to be agents of change by making small changes in their own lives.
