Through our process of Action, Reflection and Connection, Lent Event offers practical ways you can continue along your path of personal growth and connection with our global community.

Connection through Lent Event:

Lent Event’s seeks to open up new or deepened connections between people from developed nations and overseas partner communities who are materially poor. The vision is for us to form life-long connections with our overseas partners whom we are coming alongside.

As an individual or group, there are many ways you can connect and partner with people respectfully and ethically. To learn more opportunities for real connection with our partners, click here (link to UnitingWorld page).

Next Steps – Connecting beyond Lent Event:

Having participated in Lent Event’s annual 40-day event, consider how to deepen the relationship with our overseas partners. Lent Event recommends the following steps, as appropriate to your own journey:

First Steps:

The Lent Event experience has sparked something new in me and I want to journey further.

Stepping Up:

My Lenten journey has inspired me to deepen my commitment to seeking justice for people living in poverty.

  • Organise cross-cultural community events such as worship, meals and concerts.
  • Invite a UnitingWorld speaker to share project partnership opportunities with Church Council or appropriate body.
  • Nominate leaders in your congregation to connect with UnitingWorld and plan engagement.
  • As a church, commit to praying for a specific community for 52 consecutive Sundays.
  • As a church, make a financial pledge to support a specific community for an extended period.

Stepping Out:

I’m ready to risk stepping out of my comfort zone, risk taking a servant-leader role in my community and risk real friendship with people who are poor.
